An iconic Lower Hutt landmark is taking on a new role, as Avalon Tower transitions from its place in New Zealand television history to modern apartment living.
For decades, the imposing concrete tower was home to television productions that became part of everyday New Zealand life. From Fair Go and Wheel of Fortune to Sale of the Century, telethons and Dancing with the Stars, the building played a part in creating some of the country’s most memorable TV moments.
Now, the former television production facility has been given a new lease on life, with its conversion into residential apartments offering a fresh perspective on a familiar local landmark.
A familiar landmark with a new purpose
Avalon Tower is an interesting example of how existing buildings can be adapted to meet modern needs. Its new purpose brings residential living into a building rich in local history, creating new opportunities while maintaining its connection to Lower Hutt’s past.
The Post recently went inside the tower to showcase the newly completed apartments and explore how the iconic building has been transformed.
Watch the video for a closer look inside the apartments and see this piece of New Zealand history in a whole new light.
